Comedy Corner: Asif Ali
About the event
Comedy Corner is a Union Board Films series I created to bring stand-up comedy to campus and spotlight the craft as its own art form.
We booked Asif Ali, actor and comedian known for his work on WandaVision and Patriot Act, for a night that went beyond a standard appearance. Asif performed a full set of material he'd never tried before, using our audience as the room to test new work. After the set, students got direct access to him for a Q&A covering his career, creative process, and path through the entertainment industry.
The Process
To advertise the event, I went directly to IU's comedy clubs, from improv to stand-up, to advertise where the audience already where. On the production side, I managed a team of 10, coordinated with his talent representation on logistics, arranged hotel and transportation, secured the venue, brought in a sound technician, and put a full show infrastructure in place: security, a show runner dedicated to talent needs, and a front of house check-in team.
Before Asif took the stage, student comedians from IU's own comedy community opened with five minute sets, giving emerging performers a real stage and a real audience.
